Help for Viewing Online Codes

Overview

Sterling Codifiers has developed a viewer using multiple frames within the browser window. The individual frames are Search Bar, Banner, Table of Contents (TOC), Document, Search Results and Document Bar.

You can retrieve information in a number of ways.

  1. You can use the TOC to specifically select a document when you know where it is within the TOC list.
  2. You can search for key words or phrases using the Search Bar. The results of a search will be displayed in the Search Results frame where you can select the document you want to view.
  3. You "click" on Previous Document or Next Document to go through the set of codes one page at a time.

Frame Description
Search Bar To search for a word simply type the word in the field to the left of the Search button and "click" the Search button. The results will be displayed below the TOC in the Search Results frame.

To search for all words beginning with specific letters use the asterisk (*) as a wildcard. For example, typing doc* into the Search field and "clicking" the Search button will return a list of documents containing words such as doctor, document, dock, etc..

To search for a phrase enclose the phrase within quotation marks. For example, typing "water testing" (including the quotation characters) into the Search field and "clicking" the Search button will return a list of documents containing the phrase, water testing.

You can enter multiple words. When you enter multiple words do not enter punctuation (commas, periods, etc.) between the words unless the punctuation is part of the word (e.g.- eagle's nest). Also, the search engine will return only the documents containing all of the words you requested.

Note: You cannot use the asterisk within a phrase as a wildcard.
Banner Displays the municipality's name and provides buttons for linking to Sterling Codifiers' home page or the help page you're viewing now.
Table of Contents Displays the Table of Contents (TOC). When an entry is "clicked" the associated document will be displayed in the Document frame. If the TOC entry contains other documents (a folder icon will be on its left) than it will expand to show the documents it contains. The TOC entries associated with the Title, Chapter, Article, etc. may not have any text associated with them other than the items title. This is not a problem and by clicking on Next Document you can easily bring up the next document's text.
Document Displays the code document.
Search Results Displays the list of documents containing the words or phrase entered in the Search Bar.

"Clicking" on the title of one of the documents in the Search Results frame will display the selected document in the Document frame and automatically synchronize the TOC to show the location of the current document within the codebook.
Document Bar Displays three "clickable" images:

Previous Document changes the document being viewed to the previous document in the TOC.

Next Document changes the document being viewed to the next document in the TOC.

Print Document prints the current document. If the current document is a "folder" then you will be given the option to print all of the subdocuments of the "folder". If you select to print all of the subdocuments, please be patient as the codebook viewer must retrieve and collate all of the subdocuments before printing will start.

Some of the frames can be resized by pressing and holding the left mouse button down on the border between two frames and then moving the pointer. The Banner cannot be resized.
